During a Brainspotting session, your therapist will guide you to locate fixed eye positions that often evoke somatic experiences. It is common to experience emotions, thoughts, or images while practicing fixed gaze mindfulness. Our bodies and especially the brain itself is designed for survival, meaning that after each session it is typical to continue processing as the body regulates and releases. Every nervous system is unique, and your provider is trained to navigate this with you safely, helping you integrate the experience into your daily life.

During a somatic therapy session, your therapist will address underlying physical sensations by connecting dialogue to techniques such as breath work, visualization, meditation, grounding, dance, or general awareness processing. Your therapist will use techniques such as titration and pendulation, gradually widening your “window of capacity” to explore any emotional pain that may be present. These sessions may feel vulnerable, and tend to spark an intense wave of healing due to the nature of how emotions and experiences are stored within us.
